The Medina Girls Softball Association is a 501c3 Nonprofit organization that operates the Medina Fastpitch Softball League in Medina, Ohio. We currently manage 24 recreation and 6 travel teams. The MGSA provides a complete program for girls from those entering Kindergarten to 18 year old heading off to college. Our Recreation and Travel Leagues provide fun and challenge for girls looking for a fun and healthy summer activity, and for aspiring athletes looking for challenging competition and advanced instruction.
WHEN AND WHERE ARE GAMES PLAYED?
Recreation League Games are played weeknights at Greenwood Park.
Some Tournament Games and Rainout Make-up games are played on weekends.
WHO MANAGES THE MGSA?
Contrary to what many believe, the city does not run the MGSA. The City of Medina does provide the facilities, i.e. Greenwood and Ken Cleveland Parks, but it does not organize or manage MGSA. A Board of Directors made up of parent volunteers oversea the league.
WHAT DOES THE MGSA DO?
The MGSA (Board of Directors with the help of other Volunteers) organize the teams, schedules the games, hire and schedule the umpires, provide training and assistance to the coaches, build and maintain playing fields, organize the tournaments and year end picnic, run Pitcher & Catcher clinics, operates the concession stand, advocates field and park improvements, and is continually looking for ways to improve play and increase the level of safety and fun for the players.
WHAT DOES THE MGSA DO WITH THE PLAYER REGISTRATION MONEY?
Buys equipment, pays the umpires, buys materials to improve the fields, helps fund park improvements to promote safety, rents indoor facilities in the off season for clinics, and many other things, all for the benefit of the players.
WHAT DOES THE MGSA NEED MOST?
Your help! We are all volunteers, It takes a lot of time and effort to organize and manage a successful season. With more volunteers, it becomes much easier. If you are a parent of a player, you can coach a team, help in the concession stand, be an umpire, help with field maintenance, offer special skills and services to the MGSA, and help in various other ways. If you know how you want to help or even if you don’t, fill out a Volunteer Form or call the MGSA voice mail box at 330-722-4049 and leave your name and phone number, or simply go to a monthly board meeting.
WHAT DOES THE MGSA STAND FOR?
The MGSA stands for healthy competition, fair play, good sportsmanship, respect for players, coaches, and parents, leaming, and improvement. The MGSA promotes the idea that the emotional and physical well being of the players are paramount and is more important than winning a game. We want our volunteer coaches to treat each player fairly but also as an individual. We promote player safety as paramount both during practice and games.
